This study aims to examine the transformation of the role of pesantren caregivers (kyai) in character education amidst contemporary social dynamics. As a traditional Islamic educational institution, the pesantren holds a unique position as a moral and spiritual stronghold in society. However, the evolving times require adaptation and renewal in the approach to character education by pesantren leaders. This research employs a qualitative descriptive method through a literature review. The findings indicate that the role of pesantren caregivers has expanded beyond traditional religious teaching to include roles as social change agents, psychological mentors, and moral guides in the context of globalization and digitalization. This transformation is evident in curriculum renewal, more humanistic communication approaches, and active engagement in addressing social challenges such as moral crises, individualism, and the erosion of national values. Thus, while maintaining their strategic role in character building, pesantren caregivers now implement more contextual and responsive strategies in line with current developments
